See, I would have guessed that dressing as a religious would be just fine, provided the costume matches the gender of the wearer. For me, dressing as the Venerable Fulton Sheen would be fine. Dressing as St. Thérèse of the Infant Jesus and the Holy Face? Not so much.

Me, I’d sooner dress as Formosus, the ninth-century pope who was exhumed and tried posthumously in the infamous Cadaver Synod. That’d be totally Glen Danzig.

I would dress as a priest, bishop or even the Pope for Halloween because, according to Rome, a female being an ordained clergy is only fantasy anyway…

I was recently in a Party City Store, and was not thrilled to see preVatican II vestments for SALE. We were allowed, to have a parade float and we had a student portray Jesus. He only waved, no speaking…no one was offended. My son desires to be a priest, so I wouldn’t allow him to play ‘dress up’ ..it’s a matter of respect to the Holy Orders.

If you want to talk about offensive to Catholics on multiple levels, check out Octomom, dressing as a pregnant nun and all of her babies as devils.
