I only skimmed this article but I don't believe the author mentioned that although many Catholic are unfortunly giving into contraceptives, using contraceptives is still considered a mortal (or deadly) sin within our Catholic faith. With the charting, you begin to see patterns emerge, but you can also see when something is a little different, too. My cycle isn't the same each month, so I have to pay attention to my fertility signs and I can't just rely on the calendar. I'm so glad that the Catholic Church remains faithful to this teaching. Not to say that STDs are not a problem in married relationships (because of past mistakes), but they tend not to be because couples are monogamous and chaste, meaning pure (not celibate as some people think).
