An Appeal to Our Readers
Busted Halo® is free but it is not costless
First let me say, thank you for reading and/or listening to Busted Halo®! All of us here on the staff, along with the writers, contributing editors, producers and others who bring you Busted Halo® content every day, appreciate how much you value our work.
Eight years ago, the Paulist Fathers decided that someone needed to create a responsive and engaging community where people like you could discuss the intersection of faith, culture, politics, and life. We wanted to develop a morally relevant network of media and ministry so that we could provide you, and all our readers, retreatants and listeners with a fresh perspective on how religion fits into your contemporary life. In all humility, I believe we have done that—primarily because you have told us that, time and time again.
Free But Not Costless
We have never charged a subscription fee for the great breadth of content we bring you each day, and we intend to keep it that way. However, while Busted Halo® is free to you it is not costless for us. In order to continue to provide what you, our Busted Halo® community of readers, listeners, and retreatants have come to depend on, we need your support! Think of what you pay each month for your cell phone, your home internet connection, or a subscription to your favorite magazine or newspaper. Is the quality you get from Busted Halo® worth that amount to you? A portion of that?
We don’t send you a bill every month or every year, so very infrequently, I ask you to give back to us by contributing in this way. Many people think that advertising covers the cost of Busted Halo®, but the fact of the matter is the money we make from our banner ads only covers a small amount of our expenses. It’s a Bad Time, I know
As director of a religious non-profit dependent on charitable donations, I am all too aware of how the recent economic downturn has affected everyone’s finances and your capacity to give. Every day as I invite people to support our ministry I am hearing, “It’s a very difficult time.” And yet, the recession has hit particularly hard on non-profits like Busted Halo® who rely on the generosity of others to continue our ministry. Truly, without your support we would not be able to provide the faith resources and the venue for this wonderful online community that I know you value greatly.
Three Ways to Help
So this holiday season I am asking you and everyone in the Busted Halo® community to do three things. First, please consider making a Christmas gift during our Busted Halo® Reader Fund Drive this month. If you don’t have a lot of money right now, you can sign up to give a small amount every month that can be electronically given from your credit card or checking account. Click here, or anywhere on the site you see the “donate now” button, to show your support. Second, get your friends and family involved by asking them to become part of our Busted Halo® community. On the “donate now” page there’s an easy way to get your friends and family to check out Busted Halo, and ask them to support this organization that matters so much to you. Or become part of the Busted Halo Group on Facebook and add the Busted Halo cause to your wall, and ask you friends to contribute. Finally, you can offer a prayer for Busted Halo® and everyone in our society during this difficult Holiday Season, that the joy and hope of Christ’s Birth may fill everyone to overflowing, even in times of need.
Merry Christmas and thank you for your gift that keeps us going.

Father Dave Dwyer, CSP
Director
